Geography · Komodo gateway

Almost every vessel sold in Labuan Bajo is an ex-charter working boat.

That cuts both ways: documented earnings, current licences and crews who know the routes — against hard seasonal use, deferred maintenance behind fresh varnish, and licences that may not transfer the way a seller assumes.

In short

The gap between a boat’s charter reputation and its structural condition is exactly what this desk exists to close. Surveyors and agents on the ground in Labuan Bajo; valuation, negotiation, escrow and documents run from Benoa.

  • Local eyes and centralised deal discipline — the two are not the same job.
  • Due diligence leans on records and survey findings, not appearance. Working vessels age in fast-forward.
  • Commission on closing, published bands, co-brokerage honoured. Survey and haul-out are third-party costs, quoted before you approve them.

What we do at the gateway

Ex-charter diligence

Charter history against bank records, licence and certification audit, crew contract review, and hull history including grounding and repair.

Survey coordination

Independent surveys and sea trials in Labuan Bajo itself, including haul-out slots — scarce in high season — and wood specialists for phinisi hulls.

Negotiation & escrow

Offers in writing, deposits in escrow, releases tied to survey findings and licence transfer.

Sell-side for operators

Operators rotating fleet out of the gateway reach buyers beyond the local grapevine.

Most requested

Already found a boat? The closing is the mandate.

A verification-and-closing mandate covers due diligence, survey coordination, negotiation support, escrow and documents on a vessel you sourced yourself. It is the most requested service at this desk.

We also value vessels still under charter contract — common here, since boats often sell mid-season with bookings attached. Hull and trade are valued separately, and the handover is structured so confirmed charters are honoured, which usually strengthens the price rather than hurting it.

High season stretches the middle: survey slots and crew availability tighten when every vessel is working.

  2. Weeks 2–4

Secure a haul-out or dive-survey slot and complete the inspection.

  4. Handover

Crew, moorings and the forward-booking book, transferred in writing.
